PowerAde Personal Best Athlete

Katie Rickwartz

West Texas A&M Junior Katie Rickwartz has been honing her volleyball skills since her days on the court at Canyon High School. Katie was an outstanding player there under the guidance of head coach Jen Renner and led the Eagles to a 32-9 record her senior year. She was a three time all-state selection, garnered Outstanding Setter honors three times, and a two-time District MVP.

Katie recently led Lady Buffs to a 2-1 outing against some top rated teams in the Pittsburg State Classic.

She totaled 102 assists in three matches, averaging 11.3 assists per set. She also contributed three service aces, six kills, and three block assists, along with 33 digs. Rickwartz's best match was on Saturday, where she tallied 45 assists and led the team to a .373 hitting percentage to sweep #14-ranked Central Missouri.

Her skills as a setter were firmly established at WT last year. In 44 matches, she set a school record in assists n a season with 1,884.

She is currently ranked seventh in career assists at WT.

Katie's determination, dedication and hard work contribute to her leadership on and off the volleyball court and to her academic success. The staff of the Amarillo Independent is proud to congratulate her as our PowerADE Personal Best Athlete of the Week.
